You can transform your outdoor space just with a retaining wall. There is a vast array of options these days for walls big and small, straight or curved.
Sleeper retaining walls are still very popular. We use steel, timber or concrete sleepers. Concrete sleepers come in various colours and patterns and are used for longevity.
Stone Walls can be constructed from stone such as iron stone, sandstone, quartz or basalt, and can be as intricate or as natural as you like. Large sandstone blocks can be used for large walls, and we can also construct concrete block style walls in a variety of shapes colours and finishes.
At Grafscapes we do our own earthworks so we can shape things as we go.
We cut for retaining walls, do footings, shape entire yards, auger holes, remove stumps, dig over for gardens and turf.
There are numerous concrete finishes to enhance your outdoor space including standard finish, exposed aggregate, colours and stamped finishes, in contemporary or traditional style.
We can frame your drive with steel edging in straights or curves and finish with road base or road base with gravel top. There are also products we can use such as GEOHEX which is a sub-surface drainage system to stop or reduce erosion.
Paving is an elegant way to finish drives, paths or outdoor areas. It can look both modern or traditional, and there is a huge range from smooth finishes, to recycled bricks, to cobble stones. and a variety of sizes from traditional smaller style to large square modern looking pavers. colours are abundant. There’s an abundance of colours, patterns, shapes and ways to lay pavers to suit any outdoor area and really show it off.
Grafscapes can provide Colourbond and other steel style fences, pine and hardwood paling style fences, picket fences and rural fencing. For timber screening we can use decking style hardwoods, pine or painted finish or if you prefer modern steel screening.
We love to incorporate some timber in our designs and once again have so many options from new hardwood, old hardwood, treated pine, recycled timber and can achieve many different looks. A deck or pergola situated in the rear of a yard or away from the house provides another living space outside and give you a reason to go sit in the yard for a drink or to read a book.
We also love to incorporate a fire pit in our designs where we can. Fire pits are a great centre piece and really bring people together on those colder days and nights in the mountains. A fire pit can be as simple as a round steel bowl, block work, boulders or we can construct amazing stonework that will be a feature in itself.
After all the structural work the greenery can really make or break a garden. In particular, trees can be their own feature.
Soil prep is crucial and so many gardens you see struggling can be because of little or no soil prep. We use the correct soils, composts and fertilisers depending on what’s being planted - native or exotic, summer grass or winter grass and what trees are being used. We dig over areas extensively and make sure plants, trees and turf can get their roots down deep.
Mulch is very important, both for aesthetic reasons and to help retain moisture and reduce weeds.
We can incorporate irrigation systems that are as simple, or full Wi-Fi systems that can be automated from your phone.
Water tanks and pumps can be added to reduce town water use and to take advantage of your roof catchment.
There are many different ways to add in a water feature, fishpond or even dry riverbeds. A simple fishpond with a poly or fibre glass shell can blend into a garden with a natural look. For something larger, a stone, concrete, or brick pond with an advanced filtration system, waterfall, formal stonework and plants can be an amazing centre piece.
